Helping to empower people and communities by developing active citizenship locally regionally, nationally and internationally.

Community Empowerment
Community empowerment takes place when local residents participate in dialogue about the well-being of their community.
It can take place within communities, with local people and community groups working together to better understand each others needs develop solutions and create new opportunities to issues being raised.
Community empowerment is also increasingly used to strengthen the links between communities and wider statutory partners, for instance local government and public service agencies.

User Friendly Websites
for Community Groups in St Helens:
St Helens CEN has recently set up two new websites for community groups in St Helens. In our experience a lot of groups don't yet have a website and whilst many do, people can find them difficult to update due to a complex conetent management system. If any group is interested in having a simple website set up please contact us as we would only be too delighted to help you. An example of one of the sites we have set up is:
http://avenuestra.wordpress.com
There is a small charge for this at £50 and we can also run a workshop on a one to one basis on using the content management system for £10 per person.

More and more youth work courses at colleges and universities are coming under pressure due to the financial capacities which higher education is operating under. Many students are opting to study social work as there is a much higher demand for social workers.
